    According to the authors Curtain  & Pesola , one of the most important tasks that a language teacher has to encounter with is choosing  a textbook for any level. It is difficult bvecause there are few  from which to choose Many scdhool develop a ccurriculum that is not suitable . Due to the absence of satisfactory texts local schools at times are forced tocreate their own materials.publishers have produced very few materials.
This is true because  in Costarican high schools at times teachers with permission of their Principals  make-up a textbook selecting materials from different sources.That seems to match the students needs and curriculum in a better manner ,  of course  we also take a hold of supplementary dynamic  materials  to make lessons more interesting and less boring.

      As foreign language teachers  evaluate texts or curriculums they must take in account  certain criterion.

Goals : are they stated stated  clearly , do the materials reflect authenticity.

Communication : Does it serve its purpose rather than grammar as a basis ?
 Is meaning more importantinstead of form ?

 Culture :Is it integrated in the program , as a means of sharing an experience ?

Is content appropriate for grade ?

Are illustrations used free from racial , gender and cultural prejudice ?

Are photocopies clear , colorful, adequate and affordable ?


     In conclusion the choosing of texts and materials is more than just scanning a textbook and choosing it , you must follow a set of criterias to be successful in every aspect as already mentioned.
